Horse Partners

The foundation of Hooves with Heart is the belief that horses and other animals can teach humans lessons not readily available in our modern, technology-centric society. Through interactions with horses, both on the ground and riding, participants will improve specific life skills including:

  • Communication Skills
  • Relational Skills
  • Functional/Self-Care Skills
  • Vocational Exploration
  • Health and Wellness
  • Self-Esteem
  • Self-Awareness

These are fostered through the lessons of horsemanship and the relationship the participant develops with the horse. A  “safety first” approach is used to teach all participants. The youth are introduced to the principles of equine communication and behavior. They also learn:

  • How to safely interact with horses (approaching, haltering, leading, grooming)
  • Ground work activities
  • Safe mounting and dismounting
  • Balanced seat riding
  • Rein and leg aids
  • Horse anatomy
  • General equine care management skills
