Our Horse Partners

The foundation of Hooves with Heart is the belief that horses and other animals can teach humans lessons not readily available in our modern, technology-centric society. Through interactions with horses, both riding and experiential, participants will improve specific life skills including:
- Communication Skills
- Relational Skills
- Functional/Self-Care Skills
- Vocational Exploration
- Health and Wellness
- Self-Esteem
- Self-Awareness
These are fostered through the support and direction of Hooves with Heart staff and through the relationship the participant develops with the horse. A “safety first” approach is used to teach all participants. The youth are introduced to the principles of equine communication and behavior. They also learn:
- How to safely interact with horses (approaching, haltering, leading, grooming)
- Ground work activities
- Safe mounting and dismounting
- Balanced seat riding
- Rein and leg aids
- Horse anatomy
- General equine care management skills
