Feathered Flock

Youth are introduced to chickens and their complex social hierarchy, which closely mirrors that of a horse herd. They care for, observe and interact with the chickens to learn more about flock social behavior and interspecies communication. Comparisons between the flock’s “pecking order” and the youth’s own social interactions helps nurture an awareness of both individual and group behaviors. Not only will participants develop a stronger understanding of these intelligent animals, they have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of responsibility, awareness, and communication as they relate to everyday life.
